Ormsby, William (1810-1905)
According the 1891 Census, William Ormsby is living at 7 (now 15) Harold Road, with his wife, Anne, two daughters, and two sons. There were also 3 servants residing there.
William was born in Westmeath, County Wexford, Ireland, and his wife was born in Dublin. The children were also born in Ireland, Emma born circa 1867 in Dublin, Mary born circa 1871 in Wicklow, Oswald born circa 1871 in Wicklow, and Sydney born 1874 in Dublin.
William’s father, Owen Lloyd Ormsby of Ballymacscanlon (1782-1834) was also a Church minister, and lived in Louth, Leinster, Ireland, and died in Jenkinstown, South Leinster, Ireland.
William himself is described in 1891 as a “Clerk in Holy Orders MA”. William married twice, firstly to Henrietta (nee Armstrong), and secondly to Annie (nee Hodgson), who was born in Dublin.
Prior to moving to Harold Road, William had been chaplain at Clarens, Switzerland (1882-1889).1
By 1901 William is living at Grange, Bournmouth, Hants., along with his Annie, Emma, Mary, and also another daughter, Edith (born circa 1881).2
An Oswald Christian Ormsby (born 25.12.1871, Arklow, Co. Wicklow), possibly the son, appears to have become a successful Civil Engineer, and is living in Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, in 1939.3 He married Aileen Ormsby (born 29.9.1881) in 1903.
