Gatestone Road
It is likely that Gatestone Road was named after Gateston House on Central Hill, listed in census records as being the lodge of the Central Hill Baptist Church caretaker. Census records show Victorian villas being built in Gatestone Road by the 1890s and were home to a number of people living on their own means who could afford to employ domestic servants and offer a number of interesting Victorian architectural characteristics. A notable resident of Gatestone Road was Charles Fortescue Brickdale an eminent lawyer associated with establishing the Land Registry..
