More likely than not the road takes its name as a tribute to the Rosendale family, who were early landowners in the medieval manor of Leigham and not as a valley of roses. Rosendale Hall was a substantial mansion in Artisan Mannerist style erected in 1658 by William Sancroft, a member of a distinguished family with Royalist sympathies who flourished during the Interregnum and the Restoration. Sancroft owned the vast estate surrounding it, gambling on the return to the Monarchy, a bold move that paid off two years later. The Manor was demolished in the early 20th century to make way for high density housing.
