James Truscott (1805 to 1858)
James Truscott was a journeyman printer who set up a press in his own house to cope with the demand for prospectuses from new companies including railways. He was a parliamentary and railway printer, wholesale and export stationer, lithographer, engraver and account book manufacturer.His company became the sole printer and stationer for the Royal Exchange Assurance.He became a councillor of the City of London.1851 retired to Norwood where he acted as churchwarden and was chairman of the Anerley National Schoolboard. By the 1851 census he was described as a gentleman, employer and landowner of 10 acres.Truscott and Son led to the foundation of his and his successors’ fortunes. His son Sir Francis Wyatt Truscott (1824-1895) and grandson G W Truscott (1857-1941§) both became lord mayors of London in 1879-1880 and 1908 to 1909 respectively
