Gardiner, Joseph, Ralph and Henry

Joseph Gardiner lodged both brothers Ralph and then Henry in the road upon their arrival in London: Ralph is registered there at Number in 1881. Henry (1840-1908) joined them later and is listed as living at Number 8 in 1888 and then 16 a year later.

One of the residents at Number 2 took the initiative to open the cottage as part of Open House Day. It was a clear demonstration of how a Chalford Cottage could be successfully retrofitted for modern use and constitutes evidence of gentle gentrification according to the Dulwich Society.
