DIVER – 25 & 30 Anerley Vale

Charles Diver (Bn 1880 D1946) married Annie née Ayling, in 1901. His occupation was a Builder and Decorator. As a builder, he helped build the new Kings College Hospital in Denmark Hill. He was a keen fisherman, often seen at the lake in Norwood Park. During the First World War, he joined the Army Service Corps in 1915, aged 36, 5’5”. Then living at 25 Anerley Vale, later moving to No 30. He fought in France, where he was wounded in the thigh and gassed. He was a member of the Fire-Watching party during World War 2.

Son Robert Charles (Bn 1900 D1952), enlisted in 1919, aged 18, whilst living at 30 Anerley Vale, occupation, a Waiter, for the 19th Battalion Essex Regiment, 5’2”, brown hair, brown eyes. He was deemed unfit due to flat feet, but fit for Garrison.

During the Second World War, daughter Dulcie (Bn 1915) served in the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) and sons Edward (Bn 1903) and John (Bn 1911), joined the Navy and the National Fire Service.
