CHEESE (1861)
On the 1861 Census, William Cheese (Bn 1839 Chelsea D1908), is residing at Anerley Vale, with his mother, Ann, aged 42 (Bn 1818 D1890) and six young siblings. His sister, Louise (Bn 1858), died aged 4 and is buried in All Saints, Upper Norwood.
The 1861 Census states his mother Ann, is an Engineer Driver’s Wife. She married William Cheese (Bn 1816 D1885) in 1837. No house number is stated for Anerley Vale.
Son, William’s occupation (Bn 1839 D1908), (aged 22) is an Engine Driver Crystal Palace Water Works. He married Emily née Chapman in 1870, when he was 31 and she was 23 and they resided nearby at Hadlow Place, Anerley Road.
By 1871, mother Ann and her other children had also not moved far, to Brunswick Place. Her son Edward is a Railway Clerk and son Alfred is a Signal Clerk. Her other two sons are a Gas Fitter and a Carpenter.
