Thompson – 1 Hadlow Place

The occupants of No 1 Hadlow Place, in 1881, was Leonard Thompson (Widower) (B1821 Chelsea ) a House Decorator aged 60 and his sons, Leonard William (8) (Bn 21 July 1873 D1952 Bagshot), Henry (4) and daughter Rose (7).  They had a Servant, Sarah Beames (60). Leonard had married Mary Ann Pedgrift (Bn 1814 D1870 aged 56) (buried in Norwood Cemetery) in 1842 in Manchester.  He had been a Soldier, and she a Servant.

In 1891, aged 18, son Leonard William’s occupation was a Soldier in Aldershot with the 1st Northampton Regiment.  He married Alice Bertha Clarke, in Bagshot, in 1918, when he was 45 and she, 34 years old.  Her father had been a Woodman.  His father Leonard, was a House Decorator.  Leonard (Jnr) occupation is stated as an Orchestral Instrumentalist.

During WW1, he joined the Royal Garrison Artillery, Regiment No: 164155 Gunner and was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.  On the 1939 Register, he is still a professional musician (living in Bagshot, Surrey).

Son Henry (Bn 1877) in 1891 aged 15, was a Yard Boy, working on the Addington Lodge Farm, in Addington.
