Emmanuel Church:
The external and internal perspectives of accepted design were published in the Building News and in the Architect on February 7, 1874. The design from the architect Mr Edward Cookworthy Robins (1831-1918) was in 13th century style using squared rag and Bath stone and the church consecrated in September 1877. The church was badly impacted by fire in 1966 and demolished thereafter to pave the way for a housing development and a new modernist church.
The church was completed in 1893 with the baptistery and two additional bays to the nave. The building of Emmanuel Church Vicarage by the same architect followed shortly after in the same Gothic Revival style of the church.
