STOCKFORD – 9 Anerley Vale

In 1881, Benjamin Stockford (Bn 1850 D1933 aged 82), lived with his wife Mary Ann (M1869) and seven children at 108 Arpley Road, Penge (occupation a Coal Man) aged 30, and in 1891, at 50 Ridsdale Road, Anerley.

By 1901, they had moved to 9 Anerley Vale. They are still resident there, in 1911 (5 Rooms), when his occupation is a Coal Porter. The census states that they have had 10 children, 7 of which have survived. Their 18 year son, Sidney Edward (Bn 1893 Anerley D1938), is living with them. He is still living with his father at 9 Anerley Vale in 1921 (a Domestic Chauffeur).

In 1921, aged 70, (Widower), Benjamin is employed at W Coldman, Westow Street (Cartage Contractors), living with his son Sidney Edward (aged 28), daughter-in-law, Edith (Bn 1897 D1977) (née Perfect) and Grandson, Leonard (5 months). Edith is still living at No 9 Anerley Vale on the 1939 Register, with her two children, Leonard and Rita. The Perfect family had lived at No 16 Anerley Vale (1901 Census) and No 2 Anerley Vale (1911 Census).

Son Ernest Benjamin Stockford (Bn 1890 D1938) was living at 44 Woodland Hill by 1914-1920. He enlisted in 1915, aged 25. He had married Helah May at St Paul’s Church in 1913 and had two children Kenneth and Stanley. His occupation had been a Carman.
