Peskett, Solomon – (1818-1885)
PESKETT (1861)
Solomon Peskett (Bn 1818 Arundell D1885) and his wife Mary Ann, were living in Anerley Vale in 1861, later living across Anerley Road at 3 Brunswick Place. In 1841, aged 12, he was living with his family in Billingshurst, his father, being a Farmer.
He was one of the oldest hands of the Crystal Palace Company, and had been employed at the Palace since the opening. He had served in the Grenadier Guards a short time in his early youth. The latter part of his time he was employed in driving the workshops engine in Anerley-road, and could be seen always coming up the hill punctually at five o’clock to get the steam up by six o’clock. He was in his garden cutting beans in the morning of the day of his death, in August 1885.
