Sarah Ann Perfect (née Luker) (Bn 1856 D1939), was one of Norwood’s oldest residents and lived locally for 53 years. She married Emanuel Perfect (Bn 1857 D1904) in 1886. He had been a Coachman/Groom at Cintra Park, where Sarah Ann had also been employed when she first came to Norwood in 1886.
In 1891, they were resident on Anerley Road, at 5 Brunswick Place, but by 1901, lived at No 16 Anerley Vale and No 2 Anerley Vale by 1911 (3 Rooms).
Son, George Emanuel Perfect (Bn 1890 Norwood). In 1911, aged 20, he had been an Errand Boy for an Oil Colour company. He enlisted during WW1 (Private G/11267) Queen’s Regiment, 11th Royal West Surrey. His home address was 4 Anerley Vale. War Records state him as Missing. Died 1 August 1917, aged 27 and is remembered on the Menin Gate, in Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium.
Sarah Ann and Emanuel also had three daughters, Elsie (Bn 1900), Clara (Bn 1895) and Edith (Bn 1897). Elsie married William Day and were resident at No 11 Anerley (1939). Elsie and William’s daughter, Dorothy Day (Bn 1922) worked as a Toy Maker in a Toy Factory (Wood) on the 1939 Register. Clara married Herbert Crozier in 1915 and was resident at 4 Anerley Vale (1921 & 1939). Edith married Sidney Stockford in 1917 and resided at 9 Anerley Vale (1939 Register).
