The Darbyshire family lived at 2 Bedwardine Road at the time of the 1901 and 1911 censuses. In 1891 they had been living at 44 Harold Road. John Russell’s father, Edward (1840-1920) was a merchant.

At the time of the 1991 census John was a vice–principal of Ridley Theological College Cambridge. He went on to become the Archdeacon of Sheffield (1922-31), the Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway (1931-1938) and the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town (1938-1948).
