HALES – 31 Anerley Vale (1901)

William J Hales (Bn 7 August 1873), a Builder/Bricklayer, married Florence Ellen Georgina Adams (Bn 1874 D1964) at Christ Church, Gipsy Hill in June 1892 when they were living at 15 Berridge Road (off Gipsy Hill) both aged 20.

Son William (Bn 1895 Norwood), full name William Richard Edwin Hales. When he was 16 in 1911, he was a Barber’s Assistant. During WW1, he joined the 32nd Btn, Royal Fusiliers. Acting Lance Corporal 20905. He was Killed in Action 4 October 1916 aged 21, and is buried at Thiepval, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France.

Son Arthur (Bn 31 August 1897) became a Tram Conductor.
