CLOUD – Hanover Lodge, Anerley Vale

Ernest John (Bn 1886 D1943) and his wife Elizabeth née Freeman (Bn 1886 D1964) were resident at Hanover Lodge in Anerley Vale in 1921. They married at All Saints Church, Upper Norwood in 1908, Ernest was aged 22 and a Fishmonger. They also lived in Naseby Road (1910 directory) and Eagle Hill in Norwood New Town (1911 Census). Ernest was Baptised at Christ Church, Gipsy Hill in 1886 and enrolled at Woodland Road School in 1892, aged 6.

Ernest’s father, Thomas, was a Painter and in 1891, the Cloud family were living at 13 George Street (now Cawnpore Street), Gipsy Hill. Elizabeth’s father, Robert, was a Greengrocer and Fishmonger, living in Norwood New Town.

By 1921, Ernest and Elizabeth resided and had a greengrocers in Anerley Vale. Elizabeth later opened a shop on the corner of Waldegrave Road at No 88 Anerley Road. The Cloud family were well-known and popular in the area.
