BARNES – 31 Anerley Vale
In 1921, Sidney Walter Barnes, aged 28 (Bn 23 November 1892 Upper Norwood D1977) lived with his wife, Elsie (Bn 1896 D1984) (M1919) and daughters Mary (aged 3) and Eileen, aged 9 months, at 31 Anerley Vale. Sidney’s occupation was a Railway Guard on the London Brighton South Coast Railway, based at London Bridge. He was baptised at Christ Church, Gipsy Hill and was enrolled at Woodland Road School in 1896. His parents and siblings were living at that time, at 12 George Street (now Cawnpore Street).
Sidney joined the Railway in 1914, being based at North Dulwich and later Gipsy Hill, at 17 shillings a week. By 1939, Sidney and his family had relocated to Ramsgate, where his occupation was still a Railway Guard. His sister, Louisa (Bn 1885) married Robert Bridges in 1908, and in 1911 and 1921, they were also resident at No 31 Anerley Vale.
